Zondag 23 augustus 2015 Allred Flat Bridger – Ephraim 469 km
gedachte is de uitspraak van een groupie: “You are living my
dream.” Dat kan natuurlijk niet. Iedereen heeft zijn eigen droom en
voorstelling daarvan. Dat zal je zelf waar moeten maken. Ook valt het
billboard op van een tandarts: Give yourself a perfect smile for your
selfie! Huh?
af én krijgen we betere kamer.
ouderwets.
water was weggespoeld.
bovenaf in.
Dinsdag 25 augustus 2015 Bryce Canyon –
Las Vegas 416 km
Als je de zonsondergang bekijkt moet je
ook de zonsopgang bekijken. We zetten de wekker om 6.00 uur maar
daarvoor horen we al mensen opstaan en auto's vertrekken. Wij lopen

Sunday August 23th Allred
Flat Bridger – Ephraim 293 mi
We prepared ourselves for a dull ride
from the Salt Lake City region to Bryce Canyon. In total over 500 mi.
The land seems abandoned, flat and serves as a providor of corn. Long
straight roads which seem to disappear into nowhere end and tempt you
to gather your thoughts. One thought is the saying of a groupie: “You
are living my dream.” Off course that is impossible. Everyone has
his own dream and reflection of it. You will have to fulfil it
yourself. Also the billboard of a dentist draws attention:
Give yourself a perfect
smile for your selfie! WTF?To reflect when riding is hazardous because there are signs about wildlife crossing. The warning is oblivious because you see a lot of roadkills, especially deers. So focus! The bare land gives way to forest and mountains and again to bare land. It is hot and suddenly we call it the day. In a motel we inform about the price. An old woman which we can hardly understand “says” $ 85 with creditcard and $ 80 cash. We inform about all the trophy's in the house and suddenly the rate is $ 70 cash. We believe that the old woman tells us that the trophy's are won with a tinckerhorse which was three times world worldchampion, but in what discipline we will never know. The room is perfect. And opposite there is a Wallmart. We buy prefab food and can eat it outside. Finally it is warm enough. There are two other guests. When one complaints about a cat, the other answers that he has a gun and rifle so if the cat is a problem ….... Till we fall asleep there is no shooting so the cat probably survived.

Ephraim – Bryce Canyon 162 mi
We go south and it keeps getting
hotter. Harry cheers up with every degree more. It gets 30 degrees.
In Koosharem (just a village in a desolate landscape) we stop for
fuel. In the store Grass Valley we are welcomed by a friendly woman
who informs what we have to pay for gas. She cannot check our honesty
and doesn't go outside to see for herself. Well, she says, here we
are still oldfashioned. In the shop they have “a little bit of
everything.” We drink coffee. André buys razorblades and we see
that the store is also a postoffice with a wall filled with copper
postboxes.
When we go outside the owner of the
shop informs about the panniers and tells his lifestory. He has
worked in the sixties in Berlin as a missionary for the Mormons.
Friendly people those Germans. In fact they can not fully be held
responsible for the war. The economic crises had to come out in some
way. But what America did wrong was not to bomb Russia after they
bombed Germany. In this way many problems could have been prevented.
We just listen and do not comment. His father was postmaster but his son couldn't become one despite the fact he worked in the shop since 1965 when he returned from Germany. In 1983 he saw his opportunity to become a postcontractor and so to start his own shop with postoffice. The woman in the shop had already told us that oldfashioned also meant that if anyone forgot his key or number of his box he could go in the office and would be assisted. We leave with warm feelings. In the Bryce Canyon Park we find a campground. Quickly we put up the tent, throw all our stuff in it and go to the viewpoints. Wow. You have to look twice to see what it is. At first it looks if they are buildings in red rocks, but it is the opposite: they are leftovers because the water has washed out the other parts. A kind of geometrical structure is left and you look into it from above. The knickname Bryce Amfitheatre fits well but then in the sense of a giant theatre. We descent a while and it is hard to stop because at every corner there is a new fenomenal view. With many others we enjoy the sunset.

Bryce Canyon – Las Vegas 260 mi
If you enjoy sunset you als also have
to see sunrise. We rise at 6.00 but we hear already people setting
off. We walk a trail to sunrisepoint. It is nice but the new
highlight is the shower. We stand in the shower (separately) and
notice that you must have two tokens in stead of one. Grrrrr. André
puts his cloths back on and solves the problem.
From Bryce to Zion National Park is
only a short distance. This park is also beautiful. What a beauty
nature can bring. It keeps you fascinated. For lunch we find a
restaurant with Asian food.
Back on track the temperature has risen
to 86 F and on the way to Vegas we hit 108 F! A strong wind is
blowing and we are tossed and turned on the highway. Oh well you must
earn your visit to Vegas.
André is flabbergasted when we
approach the city. This is the picture we see from our childhood and
it is true. Many roads with many exits, much traffic, high buildings
and continuously planes and helicopters in the air. From our motel we
walk to Vegas Boulevard, the strip. It is all fake but incredibly
nice to see. Everywhere you are being invited to come inside,
enormous illuminated billboards which try to attract your attention
to all kind of shows: singers, illusionists and dj's and so on and so
on. A lot of people walking along The Strip, impressed by all the
copies of buildings from Paris, Venice (with gondolas), the famous
hotels such as Bellagio, the scarcely dressed girls and the too
muscled men with whom your picture can be taken, streetartists and a
lot lot more. It is a circus but a very nice one. Tired of riding,
walking, looking around we settle for junkfood and as soon we arrive
in the motel we fall on our beds and sleep. What a day! |
